Yezdi's Persian Zafarnamah Vol. II
About Book - Zafarnamah, Habib-us-Siyar and Rauzat-us-Safa are three reliable Persian sources on Amir
Timur Sahib-i-Qaran and his successors, who ruled in Central Asia from the later half of the
Fourteenth and Sixteenth Centuries. The present book is mostly a summarised and the rest a literal
English translation from Persian of Zafarnamah, written by Molana Sharf-ud-din 'Ali Yezdi, dealing
with the life and achievements of Amir Timur Sahib-i-Qaran for the period 1397 to 1415 AD. In
addition it includes a profile of the translator and a list of the drought related famines, which
occurred in India during the Medieval and Modern periods.
Amir Timur Sahib-i-Qaran was not devoid of sterling qualities and personal bravery, ample
manifestations of which are interwoven in the fabric of his saga. Once the imperialist in him was
satiated, he was not blind to the necessity of an efficient civil, revenue and military administration,
establishment of a fair and equitable justice, safe highways, undebased currency, and brisk and
profitable trade and commerce, for all of which he took remarkable steps and exerted personal
attention and vigilance. The massive and marvellous architectural edifices, some adorned with
marble and tiles, and systematically laid down verdant gardens of Central Asia are still popping up in
its landscape to tell their own story of the refined tastes of its builders, Promotion of learning,
knowledge and various sciences and arts and crafts are added dimensions to the positive and
commendable contributions of Amir Timur Sahib-i-Qaran and his Successors in Central Asia in their
times.
