About Author - Nadeem Hasnain is a well known teacher, researcher and activist and is presently a Professor of Social Anthropology in the University of Lucknow. His areas of interest are : disadvantaged sections of Indian population, especially the STs, SCs, OBCs and the minorities. He is one of the editors of The Eastern Anthropologist (www.efcsindia.com) and editor of Islam and Muslim Societies : A Social Science Journal (www.muslimsocieties.org). He is also the Hony. Director, Centre for Social Action and Development, Lucknow.
Author of twelve books, his seminal contributions are Bonded for Ever (1982) and Shias and Shia Islam in India: A Study in Society and Culture (1988). Besides Tribal India, Indian Anthropology and Indian Society and Culture: Continuity and Change are his very popular books. Three of the recently published books edited by him viz. OBC Communities in the Process of Change in India jointly with HS Verma (2006), Islam and Muslim Communities in South Asia (2006) and Aspects of Islam and Muslim Societies (2006) have also been reviewed as important and pioneering contributions in their respective fields. He also regularly contributes to popular English, Hindi and Urdu magazines and newspapers and participates in panel discussions on radio and electronic media.
