About Book - The present study encompasses the socio-economic condition of Awadh for the period 1814-1856 under Ghazi-ud-din Haidar, Naseer-ud-din Haidar, Muhammad Ali Shah, Amjad Ali Shah and Wajid Ali Shah, Kings of Awadh. It is a systematic and intensive study based on the well-known Primary and Secondary sources in English, Urdu and Persian. Brief political history and a description of foods, dresses, ornaments, etiquette, behaviour, different ceremonies and assemblies and sources of entertainment, is followed with the delineation of the class composition, continuity and change and social tension and integration of the Society of Awadh. Economic trends, policies and reforms, agrarian struture and relations and trade and commerce have been discussed to portray the economic conditions and patterns. The study is rounded up by discussing the impact of West on the society of Awadh.

 

About Author - Dr. (Mrs.) Nikhat Parveen is a young, keen and upcoming scholar of History, who secured her Postgraduation and the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in this subject from Lucknow University. Currently, she is a Lecturer in History in J.A.S. Imambara Girls P.G. College, Gorakhpur and actively engaged in carrying out research on various aspects of Indian History and Awadh. She is also a Member of Indian History Congress.
