Approaches to Social Science Research Methods

About Book - This book is about approaches of designing and conducting social science research. The main purpose of this text is to introduce a broad range of methodologies and methods of research used in social science researches.
A phenomenon can be studied with different approaches of research. There are two prominent approaches; quantitative approach and qualitative approach, in social research. A new approach called "integrated approach research" in which the two approaches; quantitative approaches are combined has now came in to practice.
This book intends to provide introduction to research approaches; qualitative, quantitative and integrated and discuss the steps in designing and conducting research studies with these approaches.
This book contains six chapters. Each chapter includes illustrations from practice, which discuss how research and practice can be linked. In addition, five research studies which used different approaches of social research have been appended to this book.
It is expected that attempt will move beyong quantitative versus qualitative research arguments because both quantitative and qualitative research are important and useful. The goal of integrating research approaches is not to replace either of these approaches but rather to draw from the strengths and minimise the weaknesses of both in single research studies and across studies.

 

About Author - Dr. D.K. Lal Das is Director, Research Centre, R.M. College of Social Work, Hyderabad. Prior to the present assignment, Dr Lal Das Principal at the College. He has been teaching research courses to graduate, post-graduate and research students for over three decades. Dr. Lal Das has a number of books and research papers to his credit.
