Socio Economic History of the Gurjara Pratihara Times

About Book - In recent decades the study of regional history has gained importance. This has given impetus to a more concentric study of smaller areas and analysing such local sources which have remained hitherto unnoticed. The present study, obviously influenced by this current historiographical trend, goes beyond the modern state units and treats the whole of North-Central India and Parts of Western India as a historical region which was once under the suzerainty of the Gurjara-Pratiharas. Three families of the Gurjara-Pratiharas are known to us (1) of Mandor (2) of Nandipuri (3) of Avanti, which later achieved supremacy over Kanauj. Though a detailed study of their political achievements has been undertaken by many a scholars but the socioeconomic front under them remained untouched. In this book an attempt has been made to study the Gurjara-Pratihara inscriptions with a view to throw light on their society, economy and religion and to correlate them with the other literary, archaeological, numismatic sources in changing social and economic pattern in context of the given time and space in a historical perspective.
